A few months ago I voiced the concern I had with going public with my blog. I take the security of my children seriously, and I didn’t want to expose them to any, well, scary folks. As Dave Wolverton, author of Runelords and my workshop instructor last week told us, “There are crazy people out there.”
However, I also learned at the conference that as an aspiring writer, it’s better to go ahead and get your name out in the world before you become a best-selling novelist. That way the editor can Google your name and see how fabulous you are.
Does that make sense to you?
Not me. Why would I become famous before I’m famous? Yet, I must become such if I want to be famous.
Wait – I thought this was about writing, not glamor. Sadly (or not, depending on how you look at it), the bridge between writer and reader has been shortened. Writers are achieving blockbuster status. The picture inside the book cover DOES matter. Egads. Dave told us that we have to think of something cool to do for those pictures on the cover, because he’s sick of the author “stare”. That cracked me up. Aye, Aye, Captain Dave.
Now I have stress over not being a glamor girl.
Anywho. This is my compromise. I will continue to blog about all my cute children elsewhere. Here, I’m public, and I’ll strictly write about writing. Whether that’s participating in prompts or writing about the writing process, etc…. well, we’ll see.
